Finely demineralized water through EnviroFALK electrodeionization (EDI)
Electrodeionization is often used after reverse osmosis. The partially demineralized water is treated again and “polished”. The aim here is to achieve very low conductivity and low silica values. This process is also known as residual desalination (polishing).
The residual desalination is obtained using professional water treatment systems – depending on the area of application, in a combination of reverse osmosis and electrodeionization (EDI) . Electrodeionization (EDI) is a technology in which ion exchange resins and ion-selective membranes are combined with direct electric current to remove ions from the water.
It was a revolutionary idea that the ion exchanger could be regenerated not only with acid and alkali, but also with an electric field, and laid the foundation for the development of modern electrodeionization processes.
EnviroFALK uses electrodeionization after reverse osmosis. The desalinated water is treated again. The water quality is characterized by low electrical conductivity and low silicic acid values.
The reliability of the EDI module and the purity of the treated water in particular make the technology attractive for applications where complete desalination is essential. For example, the production of green hydrogen requires consistently high water quality for fault-free electrolysis.
