District hospital: Pure and ultrapure water for the CSSD

The central sterile supply department, also known as central sterilization, takes care of the cleaning, disinfection, care, sorting, sterilization and provision of medical devices, such as surgical instruments. The individual parts are cleaned in special, complex processes and freed from possible pathogens such as bacteria and viruses in a disinfection and sterilization process. The high quality standards in the CSSD help to prevent infections and thus increase patient safety.

The district hospital commissioned a planning office for the water treatment. A system was required for the production of pure and ultrapure water for the supply of:

• washer-disinfectors for instrument and endoscopy reprocessing
• Container systems
• Car washes
• Steam sterilizers

The experts from EnviroFALK impressed with the GREEN-LINE GEO + EDI 1000, a ready-to-connect ultrapure water system consisting of reverse osmosis with directly connected electrodeionization for residual desalination of the permeate. The desalinated water is treated again. The water quality is characterized in particular by low electrical conductivity and low silicic acid values. The limited space available was also optimally taken into account in the customized system design.
