A plant for the production of pure and ultrapure water was required in order to meet the high quality standards.

District hospital: Pure and ultra-pure water for CSSDs

Central sterile supply departments use EnviroFALK GREEN-LINE GEO + EDI 1000 for pure and ultra-pure water treatment.

A district hospital known beyond the borders of North Rhine-Westphalia, with a very high quality standard of premises and equipment, needed a water treatment plant for the CSSD.

Objective

The central sterile supply department, also known as central sterilization, takes care of the cleaning, disinfection, care, sorting, sterilization and provision of medical devices, for example surgical instruments. In special, elaborate procedures, the individual parts are cleaned and freed from possible pathogens such as bacteria and viruses in a disinfection and sterilization process. The high quality standards in the CSSD help to prevent infections and thus increase patient safety.

The district hospital commissioned a planning office for the water treatment. The requirement was for a plant to produce pure and ultrapure water to supply:

Cleaning and disinfection equipment for instrument and endoscopy reprocessing
Container plants
Trolley washing systems
Steam sterilizers

Solution

The experts at EnviroFALK impressed with the GREEN-LINE GEO + EDI 1000, a ready-to-connect ultrapure water system consisting of reverse osmosis with directly connected electrodeionization for residual desalination of the permeate. The desalinated water is thereby treated again. The water quality is characterized in particular by low electrical conductivity and low silicic acid values. In addition, the limited space available was optimally taken into account in the customer-specific plant design.
