EnviroFALK Process water technology
Reverse osmosis, electrodeionization and ultrafiltration

Customer challenge
In addition to a good energy balance, the prevention of contamination - without the constant use of chemicals - was also required.

WIKA: High water quality for demanding processes in measurement engineering

WIKA measurement engineering makes extremely high demands on the cleaning systems and the related water treatment systems made by EnviroFALK.

WIKA is a globally active company in the field of pressure and temperature measurement technology. In the production of the measuring instruments, the filigree components are subject to ever higher precision, which also places demands on the cleaning systems and the associated water treatment. For the expansion of production, WIKA has invested in a new ultrasonic cleaning system. The plant with seven baths is to be fed with treated water.

Objective

The goal: A constantly high water quality for the supply of all tapping points by means of a ring line and buffer tank. Ultrapure water with a temperature of 60 °C is required for rinsing in the structuring and lithography tool. The heat of the wastewater is to be recovered by means of a heat exchanger before it is discharged into the sewer, in order to preheat the fresh water in turn. In addition to a good energy balance, the prevention of contamination - without the constant use of chemicals - was also required.

Solution

After in-depth consultation, a water treatment system was designed to supply the extraction points of the purification plant and other consumers. In order not to introduce any particles into the water treatment plant during the manufacturing process, the complete production at EnviroFALK was carried out in a clean room.
In addition to desalination by reverse osmosis and electrodeionization, UV irradiation and ultrafiltration ensure low germ and endotoxin levels. To ensure this permanently, the system was designed in PP by an infrared welding process (IR) before reverse osmosis and in PVDF on the permeate side, by a bead and groove free welding (WNF).

Performance data:
- Conductance <= 0.0565 µS/cm
- Silicate content < 100 ppb
- TOC in the lower ppb range
- Particles < 0.2 µm
- Peak withdrawals - 700 liters of ultrapure water in 10-minute intervals

Benefits
  • Low germ and endotoxin load
Conclusion

In addition to desalination by reverse osmosis and electrodeionization, UV irradiation and ultrafiltration ensure low germ and endotoxin loads.
